Heroes FAQ

This is a moment where Indian’s celebrate the 60 long years of freedom. When you start reading a paper or TV, there are surveys and polls to determine who are the ‘60 heroes of nation’ . Among that you can find the names of M. Gandhi along with Shahrukh Khan, Amitab Bachan and other current celebrities. They do not mention anything about people who gave us this ‘freedom’. What these new bollywoold stars and sports heroes have done to our nation? All these new heroes always work for their on benefit. How the media can put the names of these ‘fake heroes’ in a list of men, who made our nation. How can they forget the names of our freedom fighters and other people who have devoted their life for this country? How many TV channels spared their ‘prime time’ for shows/documentaries regarding the country? The media always wanted to take monitory benefit from these shows. They only want high ‘page hit’. |

Its a tough lesson to learn but the media always has its own agenda to accomplish. The media is not concerned with “truth” or anything as ideal as that, but with its own edification. We have a saying in the US, “The media always gets it wrong”, that just about covers it.

Most of the world media is owned by corporations, and you’ll find that newspapers are dumbing down by catering to the lowest possible denominator ( unfortunately this is their widest readership base) and in the developping world it’s even worse.
Forget the TV news - in India it’s never the interesting stuff that makes it to the surface - have you seen the age and caliber of the reporters, what training or experience have they had; what are they allowed to report anyway?
Even in the US, don’t forget the NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN networks are all owned by large corporations - most of them in the armaments business - are you going to get unbasied news from any of them?
The BBC is no better, they just highlight what serves their agenda and bury the rest….
Solution: like many of us, stop buying useless tons of newspapers and get your info online - it’s amazing how much you find on the internet if you are willing to spend the time - and leave Bollywood and the Ambanis, Mallyas etc. where they belong.
About Gandhiji, yes it’s sad how he gets such poor treatment .
